The Winter Olympics blew the socks off some Internet Service Providers in Manitoba recently..
During the Mens Curling Gold Metal game.. the internet pipes got clogged with some local providers…
(They weren’t members of MBIX…)
Akamai is a content delivery network.. they provide caches of frequently accessed content, and store it on clusters of servers located at the edges of the Internet… (ie: MBIX)
So when you use an ISP that does not use MBIX… that ISP fills its pipes over and over again for every person watching that content.
But.. if you are connected to MBIX.. all that content is Local.. which results in less congestion during high demand periods of time.
